Zeitungsausschnittsammlung Gustav Spann

The newspaper clipping collection compiled by the Austrian Society for Contemporary History covers the period from 1990 to 2005.

The collection follows and documents political issues and discourses in Austrian domestic politics, as well as selected international events. Among other things, there are holdings dealing with the perception and discussion of the war in former Yugoslavia, as well as with the image of the USA in the Austrian media (especially since the second Iraq war).

The collection focuses particularly on the areas of political culture, federalism, understanding of history, discourses of the past and the politics of history, as well as historical commissions and questions of national minorities in Austria. Problems in the areas of social policy and social security and poverty are another focus, as are the changes in the area of state-owned enterprises. Furthermore, the way the police and judiciary deal with refugee and asylum issues has been continuously documented. Finally, special attention was paid to the political turnaround in 2000 and the far-reaching changes in politics, political culture, style of government and personnel policy associated with it.

Another focus is on the often neglected area of polemical or satirical discussions of current affairs in art and caricature.
