Archive

The archive is (strictly speaking) a collection that has been built up since the early 1960s. The original aim, above all to systematically collect as many (partial) estates of politicians of the Austrian Republic as possible, had to be abandoned soon. The collection, which was gradually expanded to include other materials, contains, among other things, unpublished memoirs, diaries and other manuscript documents, pamphlets and (written) election propaganda, court records to be shredded (copied on microfilm), especially from the 1920s and 30s, as well as copies of the records of Nazi court proceedings against members of the Austrian resistance. It also contains, among other things, materials from (or about) political organisations and associations. The collection was and is supplemented in particular in connection with the research interests of members of the Department of Contemporary History, but also from various donations.

In 2023, the archive of documents was handed over by the Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Zeitgeschichte to the University of Vienna (Department of Contemporary History).
