Project: The Grey Men: Holocaust Perpetrators and the Mechanisms of (Non)-Prosecution in Austria and Poland
The project investigates Austrian Holocaust perpetrators and their legal prosecution in Poland and Austria (1945-1955) by examining extradition requests, investigations and trials.
Eva Reder studied history at the University of Vienna and the Adam-Mickiewicz-University, Poznań. Her doctoral thesis, “Pogrome im Schatten polnischer Staatsbildung 1918-20 und 1945/46: Auslöser, Motive, Praktiken der Gewalt”, defended in 2017, was awarded the Richard G. Plaschka Prize by the Austrian Academy of Sciences (2018) and the Marko Feingold Prize, University of Salzburg (2019). The revised dissertation was published in 2019 by the Herder Institute for East Central European Research, Marburg. During her doctoral studies, Eva received multiple prestigious scholarships, e.g. at DHI Warsaw, the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies, the Austrian Research Association (ÖFG), the Herder Institute for Historical East Central European Research and the University of Vienna. Since 2021, she has been co-editor of the web portal “Copernico. History and Cultural Heritage in Eastern Europe”.
